Understanding the situation
Penick Village, a senior living community in North Carolina, had a reporting process requiring substantial time and effort from many team members. The process consumed valuable time and resources, and delayed access to organizational insights.
Exploring the challenge
CLA has advised Penick Village for many years on its tax, accounting, and consulting needs. During an in-depth conversation about the organization’s challenges, CLA discovered Penick Village’s leadership was frustrated by its reporting process, which took so much time and didn’t produce much helpful data.
CLA called in its data analytics and automation team, which helps organizations in many industries improve reporting. The team met with Penick Village’s executive team and department leaders to understand their reporting processes and desired insights. CLA’s approach emphasized the importance of socialization and collaboration among leadership throughout the project to align on objectives and desired insights.
After gaining a deep understanding of Penick Village’s needs, CLA set up cloud storage in Microsoft One Drive and designed a semantic model and visualizations in Microsoft Power BI. System data loaded into the semantic model included census, financial, and labor.
Achieving results
Manually prepared paginated reports have been upgraded to dynamic, interactive visuals that can be refreshed more quickly with less effort. The organization’s human resources manager now saves six hours every pay period because of the improved reporting.
Penick Village is now positioned to leverage its team’s talent to focus on analysis and strategic initiatives. The organization plans to continue replacing legacy systems with modern tools for improved user experience, reporting, and decision-making.
