Understanding the situation
HESCO — an industrial automation solutions distributor — faced significant operational challenges with its reporting process.
The company used two different enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, complicating data management. Microsoft Access had to be used to integrate data from these disparate systems, creating a bottleneck and causing inefficiencies.
The method was unsustainable for long-term operations and reporting efficiency.
Exploring the challenge
HESCO was in dire need of a more robust tool capable of consolidating data from both ERP systems into a more manageable, efficient reporting platform. The CLA digital team implemented Microsoft Fabric to build a comprehensive data warehouse solution. This new platform enabled the seamless integration of data from both of HESCO’s ERP systems, making it accessible in Microsoft Power BI, an incredibly powerful business intelligence and data visualization tool.
CLA digital also created a corporate dashboard within Power BI to display critical business metrics such as total billings, bookings, backlog, and spend information. The new system features daily data refreshes, providing up-to-date visibility of key performance indicators across the company.
Additionally, CLA integrated HESCO’s financial and sales goals into the new system, which had been previously maintained outside the business systems. With these goals integrated into Microsoft Fabric, they can be tracked daily against actual performance via the Power BI dashboard.
Achieving results
Implementing Microsoft Fabric and Power BI greatly improved the visibility of important metrics across the company. The enhanced data and analysis capabilities allow for better decision-making and the up-to-date goal tracking provides improved accountability and strategic resetting.
HESCO also plans to display the Power BI dashboard on TVs, further improving data visibility and operational efficiency. The company continues to work with CLA to convert additional reports to the new platform for continuous improvement and enhancement of HESCO’s reporting capabilities.
